The UCA of Political and Social Sciences invites postgraduate students and professors to the WELCOME DAY that will include the lecture "The Flexibility Paradox: why do academics exploit themselves for the sake of science?" by Dr. Heejung Chung, Professor of Sociology and Social Policy, SSPSSR Director of Graduate Studies Research, University of Kent (UK), on 24th October, at 12:00h, in Auditorium (Mercè Rodoreda) Ciutadella Campus.

After the conference, there will be a cocktail lunch for all attendees in the gardens of Ramon Turró.

Biography

Heejung Chung is a Professor of Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Kent (UK). Her interest lies in examining different labour market patterns and out
comes across European welfare states. More specifically she is interested in exploring gender inequalities both in the labour market and at home, and the role different labour market policies such as flexible working arrangements have in changing these relationships. She was the principal investigator of the ESRC funded project, 'Work Autonomy, Flexibility and Work-life Balance', and is the author of the book 'Flexibility Paradox: why flexible working leads to (self-) exploitation', published by Policy Press. She is also the co-editor of the new Policy Press Book series Research in Comparative and Global Social Policy, an Associate Editor for the journal Social Policy & Administration, on the editorial board for the Journal of Korean Welfare State and Social Policy (JKWS), on the executive board of the European Social Policy analysis network, and the co-lead of the WFRN special interest group Economic and Public Policy, a member of the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Awards committee.
