04/11/21. Opening Conference of the Research Master in Sociology and Demography
Diederik Boertien is full-time researcher at the Centre d’Estudis Demografics (Autonomous University of Barcelona). He got his PhD at the Sociodemography Research Group, and then became Max Weber Research Fellow at the European University Institute. After his stay at the EUI, he joined the Demographic Research Centre of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, where he is currently carrying out a research project on Sexual Minorities and Inequality of Opportunities, funded by the European Research Council.
His research has been especially concerned with the exploration of the association between inequality and family formation and dissolution, family relationships and sexual minorities. Some questions that have been central to his research are: Why do higher educated and rich people divorce less than more disadvantaged individuals? How do family dynamics affect individual wealth, income inequality and wealth inequality? How does sexual orientation affect socioeconomic opportunities and family life?
The findings of his research has been published in some of the leading journals in Demography and Sociology, like European Sociological Review, Demography or Journal of Marriage and the Family
