The second Organology Conference of the Museu de la Música presents an edition focused on the current debates and challenges in the study of musical instruments. From the study of the soundscapes of prehistory to digital luthiery, through the gamelan of the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition or the unusual instruments of the Baschet brothers, the annual organology event in Barcelona is held in collaboration with the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC).

With the aim of reaching a diverse audience and embracing the multiplicity of perspectives from which the study of instruments can be approached, the program includes presentations on instruments and areas of the Museum's collections, communications, practical workshops, and visits given by renowned specialists in research, construction, composition and restoration, many of them regular collaborators of the Museum.

40 years of digital luthiery and musical meta-creation
Friday, January 24th at 10 AM
In this talk, Sergi Jordà reflects on four decades of experience in digital luthiery, a field that has redefined the boundaries of musical creation and sound interaction. Starting from this concept, he explores the development of instruments that integrate technology, interactivity, and creativity, highlighting the challenges and opportunities that have marked his career. Through practical examples and personal experiences, Jordà will share some of his most emblematic creations, the concerns that have driven him over the years, and the mistakes and lessons that have enriched his vision as a researcher and creator. He will also look to the future, addressing artificial intelligence's challenges, possibilities and risks in music creation and the design of "smart" instruments.

Organized by Museu de la Música - L'Auditori, in collaboration with ESMUC, Catalan Society of Musicology and Instrumenta Association
