Success of Vocaloid 2 in Japan



Vocaloid 2, the second version of the singing voice synthesizer created from the research carried out at the MTG and developed by Yamaha, was released in Japan in August 2007 and it is being a sales hit.

According to several Japanese magazines, in the month of September 2007 Vocaloid 2 Hatsune Miku stormed the Japanese otaku and video gamers undeground and many users posted their own music mashups created with Vocaloid 2 on Nico Nico Douga (Japanese equivalent of YouTube).  Nico Nico Douga promotion made this software an unprecedented sales hit among Japanese application software sales (it's on top spot of Amazon Japan sales ranking too).
