Teaching Faculty Positions




The Department of Information and Communications Technologies at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona invites applications for several teaching faculty positions and in all areas of interest of the department. We seek highly qualified applicants with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to teach at all levels. The Department coordinates teaching in Computer Science, Data Science, Audiovisual Systems Engineering, Networking Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. The Department is specially interested in candidates whose teaching profile matches some of the priority subjects with teaching need: core Mathematics and Physics, Computer Systems, Acoustics and Audio, Image and Video, Networks and Data Science, Bioinstrumentation and Medical Devices.

This is a full-time non-tenure-track appointment. Position appointments may be for a duration of up to three years. Teaching faculty positions are renewable for up to two additional years. Selected candidates will hold the title of Lecturer. In addition to lecturing and course coordination responsibilities, general duties for these positions include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials and maintaining a course website. The teaching load of faculty members is 160 lecture hours per academic year. Teaching in English is possible. Successful candidates are encouraged to carry out a research program, although this is not strictly needed.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in electrical, computer or biomedical engineering, computer science, mathematics or a closely related field. Competitive applicants will show the promise of classroom teaching excellence and will demonstrate strong core discipline knowledge. Faculty also have opportunities to engage in outreach and service activities such as running summer schools, mentoring professional student groups, and community involvement.

Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Preferred starting date is 1 October 2018, but this is negotiable.
