Open PhD Fellowship at the MTG within the INPhINIT “la Caixa” Fellowships Programme 2024
Doctoral INPhINIT fellowships support the best scientific talent and promote innovative, high quality research in Spain and Portugal.
This programme is divided into two frames:
INPhINIT Fellowship : INCOMING program - La Caixa
INPhINIT (La Caixa) will recruit PhD Early-stage researchers of any nationality to carry out their PhD projects in accredited centres with the Spanish Seal of Excellence Severo Ochoa, María de Maeztu or Health Institutes Carlos III and Portuguese research units accredited as “excellent” or “exceptional” according to the evaluation of the Fundação de Ciência e Tecnologia. In addition, researchers establish a personal career development plan including transnational, intersectorial and interdisciplinary mobility opportunities, and attend a full range of complementary training courses and workshops.
INPhINIT is focused exclusively on STEM disciplines: life sciences and health, experimental sciences, physics, chemistry and mathematics..
"La Caixa" Foundation will select 30 candidates who, subsequently, will propose the Research Centre and the pre-doctoral position in which he/she would like to do the research project.
The DTIC as a “Maria de Maeztu Centre of Excellence” is a hosting institution within the INPhINIT “La Caixa” Incoming Fellowships Programme proposing 8 project proposals at the different research areas of DTIC, including 1 at the MTG on the topic Artificial and Natural Intelligence for Multimedia Technologies.
(II) INPhINIT Fellowship : RETAINING program - La Caixa
”La Caixa” Foundation grants 30 fellowships for researchers of any nationality who wish to pursue a doctorate in any discipline at any university or research centre in Spain or Portugal.
The call for applications covers all areas of knowledge included in the five research areas of DTIC-UPF and is aimed at all individuals who fulfil the requirements to be admitted into our ICT doctoral programme at UPF, provided that they also fulfil the mobility requirements detailed in the section INPhINIT RETAINING PROGRAM below.
Fellowship provisions

3-years contract (4 years maximum could be considered)

Recruitment date: September/November 2024.

Funding per fellow: 117.900 euros
-
107.400 euros (35.800 euros per year) including salary, employee social security contribution, income taxes and all compulsory employers’ contributions.

10.500 euros (3.500 euros per year) for research costs such as conferences and workshops attendance, short-stays, consumables and intellectual property costs, among others.

Eligibility requirements
INCOMING
- Experience: candidates must be in the first four years of their research career. Furthermore, they must not have already obtained a doctoral degree or have started a doctoral programme before the academic year 2024-2025.
- Academic record: at the time of recruitment, candidates must have completed studies that allow them to enrol in an official doctoral programme in Spain/Portugal. Verification of the level of studies equivalent to those mentioned above will be carried out by the host university when the admission procedure begins.
- Mobility: candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain/Portugal for more than twelve months in the three years immediately preceding the closing date of the call.
- Level of English: candidates must accredit the required level of English by submitting one of the certificates specified in the Call rules.
RETAINING
- Experience: candidates must be in the first four years of their research career and have not previously been awarded a PhD or be in a position to apply for one.
- Academic record: at the time of recruitment, candidates must have completed studies that allow them to enrol in an official doctoral programme in Spain/Portugal. Verification of the level of studies equivalent to those mentioned above will be carried out by the host university when the admission procedure begins.
- Mobility: candidates must have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain/Portugal for more than twelve months in the three years immediately preceding the closing date of the call. In addition, candidates who are awarded the fellowship must complete their doctoral studies at a university other than the university where they completed their undergraduate studies.
- Level of English: candidates must accredit the required level of English by submitting one of the certificates specified in the Call rules.
DTIC PhD program admission:
- Accredited undergraduate degree (Bachelor degree or recognised equivalent degree from an accredited Higher Education Institution).
- Accredited graduate/master's degree (equivalent to a Spanish Master Universitario/Oficial, Master's of Research.... ) which enables them to access a Phd programme in their home country.

- Total of 300 ECTS credits, 60 of those have to correspond to an official graduate, research oriented, master's programme.
