Audio is a key feature for immersiveness and envelopment in Virtual and Augmented Reality experiences.

In cinematic VR/AR productions, audio is captured with spherical microphone arrays (SMAs), which allow the recording of the 3D spatial properties of the sound waves.

The simplest and most common SMA arrangement is the tetrahedron, also known as A-Format microphone.

In this work, the capabilities of A-Format microphones to accurately capture diffuse sound fields are studied.

A better estimation of the sound field diffuseness might benefit many audio signal processing applications, such as source separation, speech enhancement, noise suppression, dereverberation or auditory scene analysis.
