Preliminary schedule
10:00h - Welcome
- Cristina Pujades, UPF Vice-rector for Research
- Vladimir Estivil. Director of the Department for Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC-UPF)
Part 1: Transdisciplinary research and internal synergies
10:15h: Presentation
Angel Lozano, Scientific Director of the María de Maeztu Strategic Research Program at DTIC-UPF
The primary objective of DTIC-UPF’s second MdM programme is to launch and implement a strategic program which takes the unit’s interdisciplinary research to a new level and makes strides into transdisciplinary research. This reflects a concern for the complex nature of the challenges facing society: some of these challenges can only be tackled through transdisciplinary efforts. To this end, DTIC-UPF’s MdM programme aims at promoting i) synergies with the rest of UPF and associated entities, establishing both research collaborations and actions that can be sustained over time and ii) engaging with the Planetary Wellbeing initiative.
10:30h: Sign Language (internal DTIC cooperations and with the UPF Dept. of Language Sciences)
Natural Language Processing for Sign Languages
Forgetting how to see language
Visual signals in language technologies
10:45h: Polarisation (internal DTIC cooperations, with the UPF Dept. of Economics and the Barcelona School of Economics, and with IMIM - Hospital del Mar)
Is cognitive inflexibility a predictor of misinformation sharing on social media?
Understanding Engagement, Polarization and Misinformation in AI-Based Recommendation Systems
11:00h: Health (internal DTIC cooperations, with UPF Dept. of Life Sciences, ISGlobal, IMIM-Hospital del Mar, and local and international hospitals)

11:45h: CeSANI (Language, Economics, MELIS, Inter-DTIC)
The Center for Studies in Artificial and Natural Intelligence (CeSANI) aims to enhance research visibility in artificial and natural intelligence at UPF. Its goal is to foster innovative research by facilitating collaboration between various disciplines. The initial steps of CeSANI are supported by the Maria de Maeztu Strategic Research Program on Artificial and Natural Intelligence for ICT and beyond.
