The MdM Program on artificial and natural intelligence for ICT and beyond starts!

The primary goal of this new program is to put DTIC’s expertise on intelligence, both artificial and natural, at the service of research efforts that might intersect with other disciplines within UPF.

The Maria de Maeztu Strategic Research Program (MdM SRP) 2016-20 in data-driven knowledge extraction (MDM-2015-0502) allowed for a major internal step forward in DTIC’s overall strategic plan of boosting synergistic research initiatives across our different research areas. Building on the high degree of internal synergy achieved in DTIC, the primary goal of the new María de Maeztu Strategic Research Programme “(Artificial and natural) intelligence for ICT and beyond” (reference CEX2021-001195-M)  in 2023-26 is to project that outwards.

DTIC belongs to a university that features departments on social and natural sciences where unconnected research efforts that also involve intelligence are surfacing. The primary goal of this new MdM SRP is to put DTIC’s expertise on intelligence, both artificial and natural, at the service of research efforts that, while having an ICT component, might intersect with other disciplines within UPF. This implies expanding the influence of DTIC by elaborating synergies with the rest of the university, inclunding the UPF Planetary Wellbeing initiative, taking interdisciplinarity to a new level and making strides into transdisciplinary research. This reflects a concern for the complex nature of the challenges facing society: some of these challenges can only be tackled through transdisciplinary efforts.
