The Master's in World History has exchange agreements with various partner institutions worldwide.  Students wishing to take part in an exchange should contact the academic coordinator during the application process or matriculation period.

Candidates who wish to take part on an exchange must plan to undertake the master's degree in two years. The first year is spent entirely at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, while the second year is split between the UPF and the partner institution.

The Master's in World History currently has the following international exchange agreements:

Freie Universität Berlin: UPF Students who choose to spend one semester at the Freie attend the "winter semester," which begins in early October and ends in late March.  Students may enroll in courses offered by the Institute of Latin American Studies and the Master's in Global History. Students without knowledge of German may attend classes offered in Spanish and English. Students interested in the exchange are encouraged to have intermediate level German or to study German intensively during the academic year before attending. Erasmus grants are available for qualifying students.

Freie Universität Berlin

Université Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne): UPF students who choose to spend one semester at the Sorbonne may attend either the first term (September -January) or the second (January - May). Students may enroll in full range of European and world history courses at the "Master 1" or "Master 2" levels at the Department of History. Knowledge of French is necessary. Erasmus grants are available for qualifying candidates.

Université Paris 1

Johns Hopkins University: The Master's in World History co-sponsors a joint BA-MA (4+1) with the Department of History. This program is only open to B.A. students at Johns Hopkins. They attend the Universitat Pompeu Fabra during their junior year and return after completing their B.A. to enroll in the Master's Program. UPF doctoral students also have opportunities to spend a term at Johns Hopkins.

University of Cologne: UPF Students who choose to spend one semester at the Freie attend the "winter semester," which begins in early October and ends in late March.

Students may enroll in courses offered by the Department of Iberian and Latin American Studies and the various master's programmes at the Historical Institute.

Students without knowledge of German may attend classes offered in Spanish and English. Students interested in the exchange are encouraged to have intermediate level German or to study German intensively during the academic year before attending. Erasmus grants are available for qualifying students.

Università degli Studi di Bologna: UPF students who choose to take a semester at this university can choose which semester they prefer to attend. They can be enrolled in any subject taught at the Department of History and Cultures. There is no linguistic requirement. However, it is recommended to have  the A2 Italian level to take a course in Italian. The department also offers a program entirely taught in English.

Universität SalzburgStudents coming to the University of Salzburg (PLUS) as part of the ERASMUS exchange programme can select either the summer ( from March 1 to June 30) or the winter semester (from October 1 to January 31), depending on the courses offered. They can register at the History Department, which offers a variety of courses taught in English, especially in the area of Non-European and Global History (AGG). They can chose courses at the Bachelor, Master's and PhD level.

Courses focus on history, society and politics of Asia, the Indian Ocean and Asia-Pacific, Latin America and on Silk Road Studies. Seminars on the history of science and technology as well as European history and politics are also offered. Basic knowledge of German is desirable but not absolutely necessary. Université de NantesUPF students who choose to take a semester at this university can choose the semester they prefer. They can be enrolled in subjects of two master's degrees:

-  Master d'études européennes et internationales, parcours IPEI, Ingénierie en projets européens et internationaux, a nivell Master 1 o Master 2 en el primer semestre. Les assignatures son en anglès ou en francès 

-  Master d'histoire, parcours RICEMA, Relations internationales et conflits en Europe et dans le monde atlantique, a nivel M1 ou M2. Es tracta de assignatures en francès amb la possibilitat de fer recerca en els axius diplomàtics.

 

The Master's in World History and the Doctorate in History participate in two ERASMUS MUNDUS networks. If a master's or doctoral student has a specific interest in spending one term in South Africa or the Balkans, it is possible to apply and receive an Erasmus grant to attend a university in these countries.
