ALEXANDRE COELLO DE LA ROSA (Barcelona, ​​1968) holds a PhD in History from the SUNY at Stony Brook (New York, USA, 2001) and is a senior lecturer in the Department of Humanities at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona). He has published many books and papers in specialist scientific journals on chronicles, colonial history of the Caribbean and ecclesiastical history of Peru and the Philippines from the 16th to the 18th centuries. He is co-editor of the journal Illes i Imperis (Islands and Empires, Department of Humanities, UPF) and coordinates the Master’s degree in Asia Pacific Studies in a Global Context (UPF). His most recent publications include:

History of the Marianas by Fathers Luis de Morales, SJ & Charles Le Gobien, SJ (Mangilao, Guam: Micronesian Area Research Center & University of Guam, 2016)

Jesuits at the Margins: Missions and Missionaries in the Marianas (London & New York, Routledge, 2016);

Elogio a la antropologìa histórica: enfoques, métodos y aplicaciones al estudio del poder y el colonialismo (Zaragoza & UOC, 2016). Co-editoed with Josep Lluis Mateo Dieste.

Scars of Faith: Letters and Documents of the Mariana Islands’ Jesuit Missionaries and Martyrs (Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies, Boston College, 2018, en premsa). Co-edited with David Atienza. 

He is currently in the process of preparing several papers on Jesuit historiography, martyrdom and holiness in the Philippines (from the 16th to the 18th centuries).
