Seminar - New York City's Crisis of Affordable Housing in Context by John Whitlow

On the 21st and 22nd March, John Whitlow, Associate Professor at the CUNY School of Law, visited the JHU-UPF Public Policy Center. His visit included meetings with various members of the JHU-UPF Public Policy Center, as well as with prominent individuals in Barcelona who are working in Housing.

During the visit, Professor Whitlow taught a seminar entitled “New York City’s Crisis of Affordable Housing Context”. Students from the Master’s programme in Social and Public Policy attended, along with members of the JHU-UPF Public Policy Center. The seminar addressed the main elements that have caused the New York City's affordable housing crisis, highlighting both its historical evolution and its economic, social and political implications for the city. Finally, the opportunities of the current context were discussed and attendants had the chance to compare the situations of New York City and Barcelona.
