Getova, Simona

A feminist climate and social justice organiser currently pursuing a doctorate in the area of feminist political ecology. My research looks at the political, social, cultural circumstances under which community models of socio-ecological justice in the post-Socialist Western Balkan countries have emerged and how these findings could inform the construction of new narratives alternative to capitalism and scale up the just recovery and low-carbon transitions towards a just and care-centered future for the region and beyond.

I hold a BSc in Business Administration from the American College of Thessaloniki, Greece (2014), and an MSc in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (MESPOM) (Central European University (HU); University of the Aegean (GR); International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics in Lund (SWE); Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California (USA) (2016).

My work thus far has revolved around environmental and social justice campaigning and advocacy, climate justice training and capacity building for civil society, organizing community resistance to mining, and policymaking in the field of climate change and energy in collaboration with civil society, the Energy Community, UNDP, and the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning of North Macedonia.

I am currently involved in constructing grassroots national and Balkan-wide collective visions for a national and regional Green Deal. I am a co-founder of Kolektiv Z and The Climate Herald.
