This computer game is the result of close collaboration between the Fundació Navegació Oceànica Barcelona (FNOB), organisers of the Barcelona World Race, and the Interactive Technologies Group (GTI) at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) since 2007 to create a game developed entirely in Barcelona.

For the second edition of THE GAME, improvements are visible in the game's interface, the educational content and features designed to encourage sustainability, as well as player interaction among the community of gamers.

Like the previous edition, players will be able to race against the real Barcelona World Race skippers and will do so with increased accuracy and intensity thanks to improvements to the boat polars, reefing and autopilots, as well as the chance to create groups of competitors.

THE GAME is the only ocean sailing virtual game so far in which players can choose the option to view their boat in 3D sailing mode, and this feature has been enhanced for the 2014/15 edition.

The Game is also be accessible on iOS and Android mobile phones and tablets with push notifications about sail adjustments due to shifts in the breeze or storms.
