Begüm Dereli is a PhD candidate at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where she previously completed the Master in Immigration Management as a Jean Monnet scholar in 2016. She holds a BA degree in Political Science and International Relations from Bogazici University with the Special Award of Secretary of the Faculty. Her master dissertation explores the relationship between perception of national identity and migration experiences through analyzing narratives of Syrian refugees of Turkish descent in Turkey. She has done internship in the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Interior- Directorate General of Migration Management and she has worked as a protection officer for a UNHCR project in Turkey.
