Zenia Hellgren is researcher and coordinator of GRITIM-UPF. Currently, she works with the GRITIM-UPF task within the EU Horizon 2020 project DiasporaLink (diasporalink.org) on transnational diaspora entrepreneurship and circular/return migration, as researcher and research project coordinator. She completed her PhD in Sociology at Stockholm University in December 2012, where she defended her dissertation on political claims-making by immigrants in Sweden and Spain. Since then, Zenia has had a leading role within two recently concluded, international research projects:

Theoretically, she is interested in developing the link between transnational migration and integration research, assuming that increasingly circular and short-term migration project incite new questions about belonging and identification. As a migration scholar and political sociologist, Zenia engages in research that brings migrant agency and the role of stakeholders to the forefront within different but interrelated frameworks. Overall, the meso level is central in her empirical research.
