PAMPLONA MOLINA, GERARD

Gerard Pamplona Molina holds a PhD in Early Modern History from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, with a thesis entitled: Control del territorio, medidas represivas y urbicidios en la Corona de Aragón a raíz de la Guerra de Sucesión de España (1705-1715). He is part of Grup d'Estudi de les Institucions i Societat a la Catalunya Moderna (segles XVI-XIX), and he teaches in the degrees of Humanities, Political Science, and Global Studies. Recently, he is a professor of Current World at Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). He has done research stays in institutions such as the University of St Andrews, Sorbonne Université & Universitat de les Illes Balears.

As part of the consolidated groups of research -GEISCAM & GEICP/SGR 2017- his line of research focuses on the creation of the modern state, war as a mechanism for the consolidation of state power, the strategies of social and political repression and coercion, and, finally, the strategies of assimilation and control by the states, with special attention on the case of Spain and the Crown of Aragon in the 18th century. In addition, he has also studied the Francoist concentration camps during the Spanish Civil War (Lleida: Pagès editors, 2022), and the emergence and consolidation of political Catalanism between the 19th century and today in Catalonia (València: Afers, 2021). 

Furthermore, he is involved as an international analyst for some media, also participates as a researcher in peace projects with the Universidad Santo Tomás (Bogotá), and as an advisor to the Colombian government in the historical memory laws.
