A European project involving UPF helps schoolteachers teach students to manage stress

About 80 schoolteachers and more than 1,000 students have participated in courses and activities organized by the European project RemixED. CE Dolmen in Hospitalet de Llobregat and SEK International School Atlántico in Pontevedra are the two Spanish schools participating in the project. The University of Vigo is also one of the partners of RemixED.

Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) has taken part in the European project RemixED, which has been running for the last three years to help schoolteachers teach students to manage stress in schools and high schools.

One of the main results of a European project called RemixED is a web platform with activities and tools that allow teachers of pre-university educational stages to teach their students to manage stress in the classroom.

Researchers and teachers from Spain, Denmark and Cyprus gathered for the closing meeting of the project, that took place in Pontevedra from 10-12 June.

According to Alberto Dafonte, a researcher at the University of Vigo, a partner in the project, the RemixED web platform includes more than two hundred activities, in addition to a section of lessons with the results of implementations in educational centres. The main idea is that teachers can create or copy and adapt materials on the platform for their own use.

Over the last two school years, 80 schoolteachers have participated in a training course offered by the project and implemented activities that involved more than 1,000 students. CE Dolmen in Hospitalet de Llobregat and SEK International School Atlántico in Pontevedra are the two Spanish schools participating in the project.

According to Marc Beardsley (UPF), traditional education has largely focused on the acquisition of knowledge and not on the social and emotional skills necessary in the learning process

The coordinator of RemixED, Marc Beardsley, who is a researcher at Pompeu Fabra University, recognizes that traditional education has largely focused on the acquisition of knowledge and not on the social and emotional skills necessary in the learning process. However, social and emotional learning has gained importance in recent years and the RemixED web platform aims to present educators with ready-to-use materials related to stress management.

RemixED is a 34-month project within the framework of the 2021 Erasmus+ call for the promotion of projects in education, training, youth, and sports (Ref. 2021-1-ES01-KA220-SCH-000032801). It is coordinated by the research group on Interactive and Distributed Technologies for Education (TIDE) of the Department of Engineering at Pompeu Fabra University and includes the following partners: SEK International School Atlántico, the University of Vigo, Centro de Estudios Dolmen S.L. in Hospitalet de Llobregat, the European University of Cyprus (Nicosia, Cyprus), Lykeio Archangelou Apostolos Markos (Nicosia, Cyprus), MLCommunicate (Copenhagen, Denmark), and Klasseskolen (Hillerød, Denmark).
