The EDLab pilot project organized a national conference on the European Degree and the Higher Education Package, in partnership with the EELISA Alliance.
The conference, hosted by the Technical University of Madrid (UPM), took place on 30 September 2024. The event aimed to disseminate the key aspects of the Higher Education Package, released by the European Commission on 27 March 2024, and to foster discussion on how these proposals could be adapted to the national context. This package includes three components: the European Diploma Project, a Proposal for a Council Recommendation on a European system of quality assurance and recognition in higher education, and another Proposal for a Council Recommendation focused on the creation of attractive and sustainable careers in higher education.
The day began with an introduction to the proposal package by the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (EAC) of the European Commission. This was followed by a series of panels featuring representatives from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIN), Quality Assurance Agencies, the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE), European alliances involving Spanish institutions, the Spanish Student Union (CREUP), and the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE).
Maite Viudes, coordinator of the EUTOPIA project at UPF, participated as a panelist and gave a talk entitled ‘The strategic role of PTGAS in European Alliances’. During her speech, she highlighted the main challenges faced by partnerships when integrating the PTGAS in their activities, and proposed solutions aimed at updating the contracting models, formal recognition and the establishment of incentives.
