ICUR 2020 is here: completely virtual and with a useful app included

The 8th International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) will take place next days 29th and 30th September 2020.

The time has come to welcome a new edition of ICUR. This event is organized by the University of Warwick and also involves EUTOPIA students. They will present their research in video-linked sessions with partner universities around the world. For this 2020 edition, there will be students from universities across 5 continents with spoken and poster presentations over 48 hours.

ICUR 2020 is connecting with more institutions than ever before, virtually linking student presenters from the EUTOPIA universities with fellow students from the Monash University campuses in Melbourne and Malaysia, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU), University of Leeds, Baruch College, City University of New York, University of British Columbia, University of Nebraska, Lincoln and Stellenbosch University.

Pompeu Fabra University is pleased to announce its broad participation in this new , and different, ICUR edition. In this way, a total of 23 students from disciplines such as Humanities, Philosophy, Global Studies, Law,Economics and Modern and Contemporary Humanities will rethink their work from an international and interdisciplinary perspective. A great opportunity to engage in global research dialogue, discuss ideas and receive feedback from their peers.

ICUR App: the great novelty of this year’s edition

Attending ICUR 2020 virtually will be possible thanks to the new ICUR App. Watching sessions, participating, interacting and asking questions without leaving home. No matter which time zone you live in, you will have access to any panel that is taking place while you are logged in to the ICUR App, (available both for mobile and desktop devices viaApple and Google Play stores).

Just drop into the conference – join a session, watch speakers, and visit the virtual poster sessions.  Network, ask questions, interact with presenters and the audience and feel part of a truly interdisciplinary international academic conference!

Helen Keen: ICUR 2020 Keynote

This year, the ICUR Team is delighted to welcome Helen Keen as their keynote, on Wednesday 30th September. Helen is an award-winning performer and popular-science writer. In her BBC Radio 4 show about the history and development of human spaceflight, "It is Rocket Science", Helen combines science with comedy. The critically-acclaimed show won the 2013 WISE Media Award and was nominated for 2015 Writers' Guild of Great Britain. During her career, she has hosted the first live comedy night at CERN in Switzerland and was featured in a National Geographic series, StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson, where she talked about making connections between pop culture and science. Her innovative approach to factual matters was recognised by WIRED magazine who appointed her as an Innovation Fellow.

Undergraduate Research Alumni Panel

Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend the alumni panel session, learning from the ICUR former participants about the value of undergraduate research, both for their own careers and for their personal development.
