New EuroMedMig members: Samir Djelti and Lila Chabane, Center for Applied Economics of Development, Algeria

EuroMedMig welcomes its two new members from the Center for Applied Economics of Development in Algiers (CREAD): Samir Djelti (EuroMedMig Steering Committee) and Lila Chabane (Associate Member).

Samir Djelti is a Professor of Economics at Mustapha Stambouli University-Algeria and associate researcher at the Applied Centre of Development in Algiers (CREAD). He holds a Master degree in Economics of Migration (causes and consequences) and a PhD in Migration and Development from Algeria. He has developed the osmosis theory of human migration. In addition, he has participated in more than thirty national and international conferences and published about twenty papers in the field of Migration Studies. He has been a member in five migration research projects (Doctors’ migration, migration and tourism, labour migration, and migration and public health). He has also acted as a migration expert for the United Nations University UNU-GCM, the International Organisation of Migration IOM-Algiers, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development ICMPD, and Médecins du Monde MdM. His current fields of interest cover migration methodology, the osmosis theory, the colonial migration, migrants’ trajectories and settlement, migration and cities, and migration and access to health services.

Research interests: History of Mediterranean migration, Human migration, osmosis theory, labour migration, migration and development, migration and entrepreneurship.

Lila Chabane is a senior researcher and a research team leader on urban dynamics at the Center of Applied Economics of Development in Algiers (CREAD/Algeria). Before joining the CREAD she was the chief of organization and coordination office at the Algerian transport ministry for seven years. She holds a PhD and a Research Master's in Geography from University Paris 7 (France), a Transport Economy diploma from ENTPE (Lyon) (National School of State Civil Engineering) and HDR on statistic and applied economy from ENSSEA at Algiers (Algeria).

Her research interests cover urban mobilities, governance of public services. As a researcher, she has participated in a several conference with universities in Algeria and outside. She has published some research papers, among other  : " La gouvernance des transports publics entre politiques publiques et participation citoyenne, la ville d’Alger cas d’étude " (with Boussaid Khadidja & Yacef Abdelkrim) In les cahiers du cread (2022), "Proposal of a scale for measuring user satisfaction in the use of public transport in Algiers" (with Mimoune Narimene) In les cahiers du mecas (2022),  " Disparities in public transport coverage and bus service quality in Algiers " In Transport and Mobility Futures in Urban Africa,  being published in Springer Urban Book Series (2022), " Les dynamiques socio-spatiales et typologie des communes de la ville d’Alger suivant les résultats des deux RGPH 1998 et 2008 ", In collection de l’ODSEF, Université Laval (2016).

Lila Chabane is a member of Pan-african research council since 2021 at Princeton university.  She is also a member of International Union for the Scientific Study of Population in Paris.
