Postdoctoral Researcher - Multiphysics tissue and multiscale modelling

Development of composition-dependent cartilage tissue models for patient-specific joint models affected by osteoarthritis. Correlation between quantitative MRI signals and local cartilage composition, and image-based joint model personalization. Link continuum model parameters with systems biology cell activity models. Explore weak and strong simulation couplings. Workplace will be the Department of Communication and Information Technologies, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain.

The successful candidate will joint the SIMBIOsys group of the Department of Communication and Information Technologies at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain. He/She will be responsible for the patient-specific modelling of osteoarthritic knee joints. Finite element models with structural meshes will be personalized through clinical image data, and existing composition-based cartilage tissue models will be updated to integrate quantitative MRI-based composition information. Tissue damage will be also taken into account. The candidate will give support in the adaptation of pre-existing systems biology models of cartilaginous cells and will explore the coupling of the cell-scale simulations to the finite element model simulations. This will include the identification of the coupling parameters and of the best numerical coupling strategy for the purpose of the project. He/she will also provide support in exploring the links among tissue features and both measured and simulated biological data.
