The lecture will be taught by Diederik Boertien, a sociologist interested in relationships and inequality who is currently working as researcher at the Demographic Research Centre (Centre d'Estudis Demografics) of Autonomous University of Barcelona. Some questions that have been central to his research are: Why do higher educated and rich people divorce less than more disadvantaged individuals in Western societies today? How do family dynamics affect individual wealth, income inequality and wealth inequality? How does sexual orientation affect socioeconomic opportunities and family life? His findings on these topics have been published in journals such as the Demography, European Sociological Review, and Journal of Marriage and Family. Diederik Boertien is currently leading a research project funded with a European Research Grant. His talk, entitled "Sexual Minorities and Inequality of Opportunity", will be actually the presentation of part of the results of this research project.
