Two CritiCC members, Núria Almiron and Jose A. Moreno, have joined the recently created Climate Social Sciences Network (CSSN), an initiative designed to share knowledge, promote research, and connect scholars in the field of climate obstruction and policy. Núria Almiron is director and Jose A. Moreno is member of THINKClima (CSO2016-78421-R), a research project addressing the discourse and strategies of climate change contrarian think tanks in Europe. This adhesion to the CSSN will allow these two CritiCC members to take advantage of a support network in the field, to create synergies with other scholars, and to disseminate results that come out of THINKClima.

CSSN is an international network of scholars headquartered at the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES) and directed by Dr. Timmons Roberts. Scholars in the network are social scientists producing peer-reviewed research focused on understanding political conflict over climate change.

The launch meeting was held online on 25th September 2020 with the participation of a number of relevant participants: Dr. Timmons Roberts introduced the network; U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse discussed the need for ongoing research into organized efforts to oppose climate action; Dr. Riley Dunlap provided an overview of the history of climate opposition research; Dr. Robert Brulle explained the main research lines in the field, and Dr. Dov Sax, director of IBES stressed the importance of CSSN in the overall development of Brown’s environmental programs. The launch meeting is available on the CSSN website.
