Laura Fernández gives a lecture in Lund University

CritiCC's member Laura Fernández was invited as a guest speaker to give a lecture in the course "Critical Animal Studies" in the Communication Department of Lund University (Sweden).

The lecture took place this wednesday, february 6th in the Sol buiding. Laura's presentation was titled How to research human- nonhuman animal relations in communication studies and it was inside the theme "Social constructions, positions and representations of animals".

Laura talked about the hegemonic representations of nonhuman animals and animal liberation activists in mass media and advertisement and she also introduced how media and communication can critically address this distorted and discriminatory representation. She explained different possible approaches from the communication field to study human-nonhuman animal relations (media coverage and representation analysis, the political economy of communication, critical discourse analysis, visual/semiotic analysis, frame analysis and persuasive/activist communication). She finished her lecture presenting her own current PhD research in-proccess in the field of critical animal and media studies.
