CritiCC Research Group and the UPF- Centre for Animal Ethics co-organise a new course on animal ethics and activism.

Animal Ethics and Activism

Price: 100 euros (4 scholarships will be awarded to people who can prove reasons for the grant)

Characteristics:

This course offers an academic and at the same time practical approach to animal ethics and activism for the non-human animals advocacy. The course is divided into four sessions. The first two are devoted to animal ethics and will be taught by doctors in philosophy and expert activists in the field. The two second ones are dedicated to activism and will be taught by an expert doctor in critical animal studies and communication of influence and a professional activist with a long experience in the defense of other animals.

The first day offers an introduction to animal ethics where speciesism is defined, the arguments against this discrimination are provided and the obligations that we have towards non-human animals are presented. The second day an advanced module of animal ethics with issues related to different ethical positions is given, a reflection on the intersection of discrimination and forms of oppression and confronting animal ethics and environmental ethics. The third day is an introductory session on activism for the defense of other animals, including a review of the history of animal activism, reference texts in animal advocacy strategic communication and a reflection on language and politics. The last session offers an applied view of all three previous sessions based on the vision of a professional activist with international experience that will explain how to achieve the greatest possible impact, how to identify opportunities for change and the importance of planning that change.

Who is it for:

It is aimed at students, activists, members of animal advocacy organizations, researchers and citizens in general who wish to incorporate notions of animal ethics and knowledge of activism for non-human animal advocacy.

Núria Almiron: Doctor in Communication. Associate Professor of Communication Department at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF).

Catia Faria: PhD in moral philosophy. Postdoctoral Researcher at the Foundation for Science and Technology at the Center for Ethics, Politics and Society (U. do Minho, Portugal).

Eze Paez: Doctor in moral philosophy. Postdoctoral Researcher at the Foundation for Science and Technology at the Center for Ethics, Politics and Society (U. do Minho, Portugal).

Daniela R. Waldhorn: Master's Degree in Development and Planning Cooperation, Master in Ethics and Politics. Doctorate in Social Psychology (University of Barcelona). General Manager of Animal Equality.
