10.02.2018

Last tuesday 6th february, the MediaCorp Research Project celebrated a conferece titled "Mi cuerpo, ¿me gusta?" (Do I like my body?) which central topic was the influence of advertising on the body image of childs from 6 to 9 years old.

Numerous speakers from different universities, institutions, companies and foundations met in the conference to share and discuss on the existent researches and social projects related with the topic. In the morning, the session was introduced and then there were two round tables: one related with the construction of the body image and the other one related with the advertising, what does it sell us and how does is it done? In the afternoon, the conference was divided in two pannels, one about advertising and gender stereotypes and the other about motherhood and body image.

MediaCorp is coordinated by the UPF researchers Mònika Jiménez and Pilar Medina-Bravo (who is also CritiCC's coordinator). This project work with different social agents: families, universities, schools, foundations, kids and proffesionals. In fact, a day before the conference, they prepared some workshops and activities with kids in the UPF Poblenou campus. In this sessions, they educate them and bring them tools to understand and interpret the advertising message in a way they can be more critical and responsible of their own consumption.
