Courage present one more time in in Oracle4Girls event

For another year, researchers from the TIDE research group joined the Oracle4girls event. This occasion the event took place physically at the Poblenou Campus of Pompeu Fabra University. More than 100 girls attended the event, including two workshops prepared by Courage researchers.

Finding out the secrets behind social media

One of the first workshop interventions was the session “Be a detective and discover the secrets of Instagram” led by Dr. Roberto Sánchez and Professor Emily Theophilou. During this session, participant girls were taught some of the features present in audiovisual media platforms such as Tiktok and Instagram.

A second workshop led by Dr. Davinia Hernández-Leo and René Lobo introduced girls to the complex phenomenon of algorithms and our digital footprint. To that, participants role played as experts in technology to train “Tutxi, the robot” an intelligent search engine which faces some problems due to poorly trained algorithms.

Since 2017 Oracle4girls promotes the inclusion of girls in Science encouraging their interest in the study of Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. As a collaborative partner, researchers and professors from the TIDE research group join this venture to bring science to girls through the dissemination of relevant topics and dynamic activities. For this occasion, Courage researchers introduced interactive activities to reinforce girls’ social media protection skills
