This unit, together with a second unit “What Else Should I know about Catalan Culture?”, is aimed at students coming to UPF in September, who are interested in getting to know the basics of the Catalan language, culture and nation, in order to become familiar with and understand their new host country.

 

Languages in which the course will be taught: English and some Catalan and Spanish

(according to the group’s needs).

The Language
  • Origin, formation and evolution of the Catalana language
  • The Catalan communication area

The Culture
  • The arts and the letters (architecture, painting, literature...)
  • Folklore and traditions
  • Cuisine
Language Workshop
  • Elementary speaking: introducing oneself, greeting, asking for basic information, giving personal details

As indicated in the course syllabus, the course will include a cultural visit of Barcelona.

Minimal number of students per group: 10 students

 

RECOMMENDATIONS
This unit is followed by a second unit called “What Else Should I know about Catalan Culture?”. It is recommended that students take both of them.
