This thesis consists in a comparative study of the cognitive and perceptual proceses involved in listerners experience when listening to a radio message in two different experimental conditions: the speaker’s voice by it self, and the voice in conjunction with the speaker's image. Based on an experimental design, qualitatively and quantitatively grounded, this work empirically examines cognitive and perceptual responses to the following variables: voice sensations, effectivity attribution, mental image generation during exposure to voice, attention, and recall of the message. The study also explores the psychological aspects involved in the mediated information processing, focusing specifically on pitch and timber as the main characteristics of human voice, and therefore, of the radio as a medium.

Keywords: voice perception, human voice, radio, cognition, image.
