5th Annual Conference of the International Place Branding Association held in UPF

The Communication Department of Universitat Pompeu Fabra with members of CAS research group, led by Dr. José Fernández Cavia, organized the 5th Annual Conference of International Place Branding Association

The Conference, which was postponed a year due to covid-19, was held at the facilities of the Department of Communication of the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona on December 8-10, 2021. 

The Conference brought together scholars, practitioners and students of place branding and related fields. The aim of this annual conference is to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas around the theory and practice of place branding, linking the members of the international place branding community in a beneficial manner, bringing scholars and practitioners closer together and advancing the professionalization of the field.

The conference gathered place branding experts from academia, practice and policy making for a valuable discussion around this fascinating cutting edge intersection of marketing, tourism, economic development, events organization, heritage management, spatial design, public diplomacy and human geography. 

The International Place Branding Association (IPBA), established in 2016, is a non-profit independent association of academics, professionals and other individuals involved or interested in the principles and practices of brand development and brand management for places (cities, regions, nations and destinations).

As Robert Govers, the president of the association, announced during this event, the 6th annual conference of the association will be held in Aix-en-Provence in the second half of 2022.
