On March 15th 2016, Catia Faria, member of the board of UPF-CAE and animal activist, successfully presented the first PhD thesis addressing the ethics of helping animals in the wild.

On March 15th 2016, Catia Faria, member of the board of UPF-CAE and animal activist, successfully presented the first PhD thesis addressing the ethics of helping animals in the wild. The dissertation, titled "Animal Ethics Goes Wild: The Problem of Wild Animal Suffering and Intervention in Nature”, ” was assessed by a commission made of Genoveva Martí (UB), Alasdair Cochrane (University of Sheffield) and Jeff McMahan (University of Oxford) in room Mercè Rodoreda at Ciutadella campus.

With this thesis Faria has become one of the leading ethicists working in this field. This shows how concern for this topic is growing, and how animal ethics is becoming strong in academia. The dissertation has been co-supervised by Paula Casal (Universitat Pompeu Fabra), Oscar Horta (Universidad de Santiago de Compostela), and Joao Cardoso Rosas (Universidade do Minho).
