Fernando G. Benavides is Senior Professor at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). He was trained in medicine (MD) at the University of Seville and received his PhD at the University of Alicante (with special mention). He was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Liverpool (1980) and at McGill University (1995). Since 2010 he serves as Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas School of Public Health (Houston).
Since 2009 Fernando Benavides has served as Director of the Centre for Research in Occupational Health (CiSAL); the Centre is the result of an agreement between Corporación Mutua, the Union Institute for Work Environment and Health, and the UPF and is dedicated to research on health problems, occupational safety and health policy, vulnerable groups and information systems.
Dr. Benavides is also Director of the master degree programme in Occupational Health and Professor for the master degree programme in Public Health at the Pompeu Fabra University. He teaches classes for the University Master Programme in Safety and Health at Work at the School for Prevention of Occupational Risks (UPC-UPF-UB-INSHT) and in the programmes of Medicine, Human Biology and Labour Relations at the UPF.
Since 2010 Fernando Benavides has served as the President of the Spanish Society of Epidemiology (SEE).
