A joint work between BCN MedTech and CETIR Centre Mèdic is awarded at the XXIII Congress of SEIOMM

The XXIII Congress of the Spanish Society of Bone Research and Mineral Metabolism (SEIOMM) took place in the city of Granada on November 7th-9th.

20.11.2018

During this congress, the results of the joint work between BCN MedTech and CETIR Centre Mèdic, of the Ascires Biomedical Group were presented, winning the award for the best clinical communication in the form of a poster. Carlos Ruiz Wills and Jerome Noailly participated in this work from the side of BCN MedTech. CETIR collaborated with Luis del Río, Sara Guardiola, Jordi Moreton and S.Di Gregorio, from CETIR, participated in the project

The work presented was entitled "Supervised learning techniques to estimate the biomechanical behavior in hip volumes acquired by DXA in 3D", and the main objective was the analysis of a set of biomechanical variables extracted from simulations using finite element models obtained through 3D-DXA technique, with a fracture prediction system that uses automatic learning techniques.

The results suggested that the fracture could be predicted from virtually improved DXA data, using biomechanical parameters obtained by combining finite element models and DXA images.

The collaboration between the two entities is associated with the FEIOMM Research Scholarship 2016 and the QUAES-UPF Chair, and it has the general objective of improving personalized estimations of the risk of fracture of the proximal femur in patients with osteoporosis.
