Next event: Current Trends in Cardiac MRI

On May 15th the QUAES-UPF Chair, in collaboration with BCN MedTech and Fundación QUAES will celebrate an event on "Current Trends in Cardiac MRI".
09.05.2018

The event will take place at the Poblenou campus of the UPF, in room 55.309 of the Tanger building between 12:15 and 16:00. During this event there will be a plenary session by professor Dudley Pennel as well as several shorter talks given by senior researchers in the field of cardiology. The event will finish with a round table.

Dudley Pennell is a professor of Cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College and an internationally recognized clinical researcher. He developed new methods based on MRI to quantify the iron overload in patients with thalassemia that have had an important clinical impact, both reducing mortality in this condition and monitoring the effects of new therapies. It has probably contributed  to the establishment of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance in clinical practice, phenotypically characterizing hypertrophic and dilated myocardiopathies and amyloid heart disease and demonstrating perfusion abnormalities in syndrome X. He is currently director of the NIHR Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit of the Royal Brompton Hospital.

During his talk Prof. Pennell will talk about cardiovascular magnetic resonance with diffusion tensor (DT) or CRM-TD as a tool to perform in vivo, non-invasive assessment of the myocardium at the microstructural level.

Among the speakers of this day there are two important doctors from the Hospital Clinic and the ASCIRES biomedical group, as well as senior researchers from the UPF of the BCN MedTech research unit.
