On September 27th Jordina Torrents, member of BCN MedTech, was invited to Hewlett-Packard (HP) to give a talk on “Ad-hoc computational approaches towards personalized medicine”.

HP is an American multinational Information Technology organization that provides hardware and software services to small, medium and large sized businesses across industries

HP occasionally holds Innovation talks where all their personnel is invited to attend. These talks are intended to show the workers at HP innovative and interesting work that is developed at other centers.

Jordina was recently awarded with the prestigious “Google Women Techmakers” award, which is a recognition based on academic performance, leadership, and impact in the community of women in tech.

The outline of the presentation at HP focused on Jordina’s recent visit to Google UK in London where she had the opportunity to stay for a week thanks to the Google Women Techmakers Award. She also introduced the context of her research, which is within the medical field. More specifically, she tackled aspects such as image and signal processing, computer vision, machine learning, and surgical planning and navigation. She selected four examples of research projects she was or is currently involved: breast cancer, diabetic retinopathy, Alzheimer's disease and fetal surgical planning and navigation.
