The 12x12 Congress held on December 20th in the Imagina building, in Barcelona, ​​was again the framework that hosted the presentation of the ICT Dona Awards, a prize that has the double objective of recognizing the fundamental role of women in the professional, business and academic word of the new technologies, and offers references to girls who are doubting whether or not to devote themselves to the STEM disciplines in the future.

Both the ICT meeting and the 'Dona TIC' Awards are a joint initiative of the Tertulia Digital association, with Tomás Cascante, CEO of Tertulia Digital and editor of BARCELONADOT, at the head; and the Department of Digital Policies and Public Administration of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The meeting is sponsored by i2cat, Microsoft, Telefonica and Citelum.

 

This year, seven categories were rewarded:

  • Entrepreneur: must be founder or co-founder of a company active in the ICT sector.
  • Professional: must work for a company or organization or be a "freelance" dedicated to the field of ICT and must be in possession of an ICT university degree.
  • Academic / Researcher: must dedicate to training and / or research in the field of ICT and must be in possession of an ICT university degree.
  • Discloser: must work in the field of communication linked to ICT.
  • Revelation: must have had a relevant and remarkable role in the field of ICT despite having a short history.
  • ICT student: it is divided into Universitaria and FP, and candidates must be students of any university degree or Vocational Training cycle in the ICT field and must have developed a project and / or initiative that is outstanding in this field.
  • Reference initiatives: it is also divided into two subcategories, Business and Entity, training center / institution, and can choose any company, entity and / or training center / institution that has developed its own initiative that highlights the role of women in the workplace. field of ICT.

Jordina Torrents, PhD student of BCN MedTech, was awarded in the category of “Dona TIC Revelació 2018”. The Honorable Mr. Jordi Puigneró, Conseller of Digital Policies and Public Administration, was in charge of giving her the award. This award is a recognition for Jordina’s work in the field of biomedical engineering.
