This September two of BCN MedTech member will defend their thesis work.

Mohamed Oualid  Benkarim will be the first one to defend his work entitled “Multi-atlas Segmentation and Analysis of the Fetal Brain in Ventriculomegaly”. Oualid’s thesis is focused in the development of automatic segmentation approaches that can be applied to brains at different life stages, including the gestational period, and investigate in utero brain development under abnormal conditions. The defense will take place on September 14th at 2pm in room 55.309 at UPF Poblenou Campus. His thesis has been directed by Gerard Sanromà, from the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases and Gemma Piella, Prof at UPF and member of BCN MedTech. The tribunal will be composed by Dr. Julia Schnabel, from King's College London (President), Dr. Federico Sukno, from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Secretary) and Dr. Pierrick Coupé from University of Bourdeaux (Vocal).

Sergio Sanchez will defend his thesis on September 21st. His thesis is entitled “Multi-feature machine learning analysis for an improved characterization of the cardiac mechanics” and has been directed by Dr. Nicolas Duchateau, Prof. Gemma Piella and Prof. Bart Bijnens. Sergio’s thesis is focuses on the development of machine learning tools to better characterize the cardiac anatomy and function in the context of heart failure, and in particular their extension to consider multiple parameters that help identifying the pathophysiological aspects underlying disease. The thesis defense will take place at 11am in room 55.309 at UPF Poblenou Campus. The tribunal will be composed by Daniel Rueckert from Imperial College London (President), Anders Jonsson from UPF (Secretary) and Marta Sitges Carreño, from Hospital Clínic (Vocal).
