Our research is focused on bioelectrical phenomena and, in particular, on exploring the use of these phenomena for developing new methods and devices for biomedical applications.

We believe that controlled delivery of electric currents through the human body may be the basis for some diagnostic and therapeutic approaches of great impact.

Our main research topics are wireless electronic implants and electroporation. We explore these topics aiming at clinical applications such as:

  • Neuromuscular stimulation for patients with paralysis. We are developing injectable electronic implants that will allow us to implement wireless neuroprosthetic systems for functional electrical stimulation.

  • Cancer treatments based on the electroporation phenomenon. A specific objective of our research is to develop new electrode arrangements, devices and methodologies for electric field management in electroporation therapies.
