Jessica Rodriguez wins the Special Doctoral Awards in Sciences

Jessica Rodríguez-Pereira, postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Economics and Business of the UPF, has been one of the winners of the Special Doctoral Awards in Sciences, 2017-2018 Graduation year, from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, for her thesis titled “New Models and Algorithms for Several Families of Arc Routing Problems”.

14.10.2020

The winning thesis, completed under the joint supervision of Professor Elena Fernández (UPC) and Professor Gilbert Laporte (HEC Montréal),  focuses on the design of vehicle routes when the service demand is located at the edges of the operating network. The aim is to provide quantitative tools to the decision makers to identify the best choices for the design of the routes. In particular, three families of problems are studied: the Multi Depot Rural Postman Problems, the Location-Arc Routing Problems, and the Target-Visitation Arc Routing Problems.

Originated from this research, the paper “Exact Solution of Several Families of Location-Arc Routing Problems” won the inaugural SOLA* Best Student Paper Award at the annual meeting of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) held in Seattle, 2019. INFORMS is the world’s largest professional association dedicated to operations research, management science and analytics.
