Language Policy from an International Perspective

In this seminar, we will discuss various aspects of language(s) and language policy with an emphasis on the North American context.  Topics will include:  language ideologies and attitudes;  the effect of official language policies on language minorities in Canada, including language in education policies; conceptualizations of language and language rights in political theory;  the construction of national identity in the U.S.A. and Canada, among other issues.
