Research Support position - on processing of 4Dflow magnetic resonance images of the left atria for the validation of CFD and deep-learning based in silico simulations

A research support position is available at the BCN-MedTech Research Unit (https://www.upf.edu/web/bcn-medtech/), Department of Information & Communication Technologies (DTIC) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Barcelona, Spain, in close collaboration with IDIBAPS / Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and General Electric Medical Systems Spain, starting October 2019. It will be part of a recently granted Retos Investigación project (VIROLAAI) and co-funded by the European Union through “Fons Europeu de Desenvolupament Regional (FEDER)”

Job description

We propose a research assistant position directly associated to the project to investigate, develop, validate and translate computational tools to analyse and simulate blood flow patterns in the left atria. The work of will be fully complementary to other developments in VIROLAAI. The main goal will be to process haemodynamics imaging data, specially 4D-flow MRI, for the validation of simulations derived from classical Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and datadriven (e.g. deep learning) methods. The research will be divided into the following stages: 1) processing 4D-flow MRI data to derive haemodynamics indices of the LA/LAA in patients with atrial fibrillation; 2) comparison of DL-based blood flow simulations with classical CFD ones and with patient-specific 4D-flow MRI data. If realistic enough, DL-based simulations will be integrated with the virtual reality VIDAA interfaces for a fast user interaction and visualization of in silico simulations. This PhD will be in close collaboration with technicians from General Electric Medical Systems as well as clinicians from Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and Hospital Vall d’Hebron for the acquisition of 4D-flow MRI data and the processing of this data.

We seek candidates working in Cognitive Neuroscience, preferably Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience, with strong programming skills (advanced scientific programming in Matlab and Python) and experience in EEG - experimentation and analysis (Fourier, wavelet time-frequency analysis for power spectrum, functional and effective connectivity analyses). The successful candidate will develop a vigorous research program that contributes to and complements ongoing research studies. The candidate will have access to state of the art facilities.

The Natural Language Processing Group (TALN) of the University Pompeu Fabra invites applications for the full-time position of a software developer.

The selected candidate will join an interdisciplinary group of highly qualified researchers and engineers.

He/she will be in charge of the development of tools (mainly in Java, but occasionally also in other programming languages such as Python or C++) in the context of various NLP tasks, including multilingual text analysis and generation, automatic summarization, machine translation, etc.

Requirements:

  • A degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering

LINUX SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR - Part Time

 

 

 

The Center for Brain and Cognition, at Universitat Pompeu Fabra offers a position in Linux system administration for its high‐performance computer cluster.

Our cluster currently provides service to twenty users and consists of forty servers and approximately eight hundred computational cores. The new administrator will install and maintain software and also monitor and solve problems regarding the cluster and its associated infrastructure. Emphasis will be placed on the automation and documentation of the administrative tasks. Our cluster is used mainly to perform numerical simulations of models neural systems.

The programs carrying out those simulations are written in Python or MATLAB.

We may eventually require the administrator to work on the optimization of those programs, once the administration tasks are sufficiently automated.
