Analysis of internship agreements among undergraduate, master and PhD students at our School (2020–21)
The Teaching Quality and Innovation Team at the Engineering School and ICT Department presents a summary of the analysis of internship agreements (including renewals) among Engineering undergraduate, graduate and doctorate students during the last academic year (2020–21). This same survey was conducted in other academic years (please click here to find the summary).
It should be noted that the number of agreements signed in 2020–21 was higher than in previous years.Specifically, 357 agreements were signed, 91 more than in 2019–20. We attribute the increase in part to the fact that some students had not been able to sign their agreements the previous year due to the exceptional circumstances resulting from the health crisis. In addition, the trend towards teleworking that we had already noted the previous year continued in 2020–21.

Out of the total number of undergraduate internship agreements (357), we have received 126 assessments by internship tutors (42% out of the total number), which correspond to the cases in which the practicum is compulsory and so is the assessment.
The most relevant conclusions drawn from these assessments were the following:
- The internship tutors were highly satisfied with the students’ performance.
- Almost all the tutors think that internships make it easier for students to increase their employability later.
- A high percentage of students (38.9%, 16.9% more than in the previous year) were offered a job at the end of their internships, a significant number of them (34.1%) will be considered for future hiring, and only 23.8% did not receive any job offer.
Internship tutors highlight soft skills as a key element. They deem it necessary to insist on this item during the degrees.
