Summary of study conducted by AQU on Graduate class (aggregated data regarding the graduates from 2017 to 2020)

01.02.2021

The Innovation and Teaching Quality Team at the UCA EiTIC (USQUID) presents a summary of the survey conducted by AQU on graduate satisfaction. Here we discuss the aggregated data regarding the graduates from our school (GEI, GESA and GEXT degrees, years 2017-2020). To carry out the survey, a sample of students from each degree was selected, and all the data have been analysed as just one group comprising all the ICT students. Throughout the survey, the results obtained are compared to the corresponding degrees at the rest of Catalan universities. In this summary, we present the UPF data in parallel to the average of the Catalan universities.

Out of 302 UPF graduates, 63 took part in the survey. Therefore, the participation rate was 20.9%. The table below presents the sociodemographic data of the sample:

As seen in this first table, female enrolment is higher at UPF than at the total of Catalan universities: 22.2% compared to 17.5% on average. On another note, most of the ICT students at UPF choose their degree based on their calling, as do the rest of Catalan universities students (68.3% and 73.3% on average, respectively). The second most frequent factor to decide on a career is job prospects (20.6% on average among UPF students and 18% among students at Catalan universities in general). Finally, it is noted that the percentage of students working during their degree is lower at UPF than at all the Catalan universities on average (57.1%, compared to 67.4%).

The survey has focused on the assessment of three main areas:

  • Teaching and learning. Focus on the assessment of both the teaching staff and the methodologies used. 7 questions in total.
  • Student support. Focus on the assessment of help provided for students by the university. 7 questions in total.
  • Results. Focus on the assessment of student learning and job training provided by their experience at university. 6 questions in total.

Next, we present the overall satisfaction ratings by graduates for each area, as well as their answers when asked if they would choose the same degree and university again. Finally, we present the overall satisfaction with the degree.

As seen in the second table, results obtained at UPF are globally similar to those obtained from ICT degrees at Catalan universities on the whole. The highest-rated item is student support, rated above the global average (7.3 at UPF, compared to 6.9 on average for all Catalan universities on the whole. In addition, considering the three areas covered by the survey, UPF stands out regarding both “Student support” and “Results”.

The following table sets out the questions for which UPF achieved the highest results.

As we can see, UPF ranks higher than the Catalan average for all these items. In particular, UPF stands out in academic education as a way to improve personal skills, student support services, digital tools, such as the virtual campus, and, finally, the high quality of the teaching staff. It can be easily noted that at least one item from each area ranks among the four highest-rated ones.
