Functions

The commissioner for Planetary Wellbeing will have the following roles and responsibilities:

  • Promote the Planetary Wellbeing project in teaching and research.
  • Define the future UPF Fish Market building.
  • Establish the role of Planetary Wellbeing within institutional sustainability policies.

 

 

Curricula

Josep Lluís Martí is a tenured lecturer of Philosophy of Law at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. His research focuses on the following topics: republicanism, global governance and democratic theory (mainly on deliberative democracy, participatory democracy and collective intelligence), and he has also conducted research into theory of law, constitutional theory and the philosophy of penal law.

He has published dozens of articles and several books, including The Deliberative Republic (Marcial Pons, 2006), Deliberative Democracy and Its Discontents, co-edited with Samantha Besson (Ashgate, 2006), Legal Republicanism, also co-edited with Samantha Besson (Oxford University Center for Human Values (Princeton University, 2008-2009), and a visiting professor to the University of Richmond (2014). He is currently collaborating with the GovLab of New York University on several projects, including CrowdLay and CrowdJustice, all related to the application of new technologies for public innovation and the democratization of government and state institutions. He is also involved in an H2020 project entitled “Reconstructing Democracy in Times of Crisis: A Voter-Centered Perspective”.

He was appointed by the rector on 31 May 2021.
