Formative feedback in translation teaching and learning

The RETROTRAD project has a double objective:

1) to describe and characterise the feedback processes in the translation classroom at university level
2) to determine their possible impact on the learning process of future translators. To achieve this objective, a corpus of analysis will be constituted from data obtained in semi-structured interviews with teachers, discussion groups with students, samples of written feedback in student translations and classroom observations in general and specialised translation subjects. Such subjects belong to the degrees in Translation and Interpreting taught in two Spanish centres: the Pompeu Fabra University and the University of Málaga.

The situational context in which these practices take place, which is essential to determine how feedback is given in the classroom, will be analysed on the basis of institutional and academic documents. The triangulation of data and the comparison between the two centres to determine which culture of feedback they promote should contribute to an in-depth development of the concept of feedback in translation pedagogy in order to foster significant student learning and more reflexive teaching practices.
