Inaugural lecture for the academic year 2018-2019 given by Vicent Montalt (Universitat Jaume I)
"Using drama to understand and foster effective doctor-patient interation"
Date: 25 de setembre del 2018
Time: 12.30 h
Location: Room 52.019 - Campus del Poblenou - UPF
Abstract:
The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease.” (William Osler, 1849-1919). Genres in institutionalised communication - such as the medical consultation and the informed consent in clinical settings - can benefit from drama to achieve a more effective and ethical dialogue. The aim of this talk is to present two current research projects - funded by Universitat Jaume I and MINECO - developed by the GENTT group at UJI whose aim is to understand and improve doctor-patient communication in multilingual and multicultural healthcare settings by means of scripts and role plays. Multidisciplinary discussion involving actors, doctors, linguists and translators will also be addressed.
