Feminism and antispeciesism, a talk by philosopher Catia Faria

On Tuesday February 11, 2020, Philosopher Catia Faria (Centre for Ethics, Politics and Society at the University of Minho, Portugal) gave a very interesting talk on "Feminism, antispeciesism and the extension of the political community” to the students of the Critical Animal and Media Studies subject. The talk focused on the reasons why feminists must be antispeciesist, and discussed relevant works on oppression and the patriarchy – like the ones by Iris Marion Young, Carol Adams or Brian Luke – as well as concepts like epistemic injustice, abolitionism and xenofeminism. Related to the last point, Faria gave us a taste of ‘xenozoopolis’, her recent proposal for the abolition of the fundamental human-alien binary.
