Giovanni Geraci, “La Caixa” Junior Leader Fellow, 2018 Outstanding Young Researcher by the IEEE ComSoc

On 21 May, during the 2019 IEEE International Conference on Communications held in Shanghai (China) from 20 to 24 May, the three prizes were delivered that are awarded each year by the IEEE ComSoc Young Researcher Award for Europe, Middle East & Africa Region (IEEE ComSoc EMEA) in recognition of the research, publications and activities carried out in the last three years by members of the IEEE Communications Society.

Giovanni Geraci, a researcher of the Wireless Communications Research Group (WiCom), at the Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC) at UPF, was appointed the winner of two prizes awarded by the IEEE ComSoc EMEA for Outstanding Young Researcher and for his promising research for the benefit of society.

Geraci is a PhD from the University of New South Wales (Australia) (2014). He has experience in industrial innovation. He has worked at Nokia Bell Labs (Ireland) as a research scientist (2016-2018). He was previously at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (2014-2015), the University of Texas at Austin (USA, 2013), Supélec (France, 2012), and Alcatel-Lucent (Italy, 2009).

In 2018 he joined Pompeu Fabra University as a researcher and teacher thanks to a grant by Junior Leader Fellowship of "la Caixa". He has written more than 50 publications including book chapters and scientific articles, with more than 1,000 citations, and is co-inventor of a dozen sets of patents related with communications and wireless networks.

A restless member of the research community, he is editor of the journals IEEE Wireless Communications and IEEE Communications Letters, a workshop facilitator, and co-organizer of the special sessions at the IEEE Globecom’17, Asilomar’18 and IEEE ICC’19 symposia, as well as being a regular guest speaker at seminars in the field of communications.
