IULA mourns the death of Sara Álvarez
On the month of February, Sara Álvarez Catalá left us. She was a professor on the theory and methodology of translation in the Universidad de la República (Uruguay), and for many years the head of the Translation degree. A specialist in juridical translation, she participated in many initiatives in favor of the research on terminology, neology and specialized translation in Uruguay and Latin America.
The IULA members had the opportunity to participate in some of these initiatives with her. She was a member of RITERM from the beginning and coorganized the conferences X Simposio Iberoamericano de Terminología: “Terminología, conocimientos, sociedad y poder” (Montevideo, November 7th-10th, 2006). She was a guest speaker in the congress I Congreso Internacional de Neología de las Lenguas Románicas (CINEO2008) in Barcelona. She was also the first head of the Uruguayan node for the Antenas Neológicas.
